Update from your Club

Sorry that we haven’t provided an update in the last couple of days, still coming to terms with what has happened.

The community support we have received has been overwhelming, from other clubs and community group offering their facilities, to our club members and members of the community offering their time to help with the clean-up.

The board, management and staff wish to thank you all.

The source of the fire is unknown, could have been an electrical fault that spread to through the ceiling. we may never know exactly what the cause was, there was no criminal activity involved in the fire.

The two bowling green roofs are fine

Each bowling green has had slight damage on the rinks closet to the bowlers lounge.

The bowlers lounge has wet carpets that are currently being dried, otherwise this building survived (hard to believe). Until the site has been cleared as safe – there will be no access to the bowling greens for roll ups or practice.

The function Centre

Function room 1 & 2 no damage – just the smell of smoke

pre- function area – heat and smoke damage

The rest of the club has been deemed as a knock down and rebuild.

Once the function center has been deemed safe, we will open the club temporary from this area.

I’m sorry to advise that the club will not be doing any major functions for a period of time it takes to rebuild the club.

The aim is to be able to start trading ASAP, to welcome back our members and the community, please be patient while we make it safe for you to return (it will be different for a while)

For anyone that has booked one of our fantastic shows or paid a deposit for a function, you will receive a full refund, we just need a little time to get some infrastructure in place to be able to process your requests.

I have been debating weather to post these photos as it may be quiet confrontational for some. the destruction is extreme.

we have had a lot of questions regarding the damage, we hope this clarifies some of the comments going around.

We will rebuild and return as the Bowling Club you all love.

Thankyou

Teena Johnson – General Manager

Celebrating the Morwell community since 1913

The Morwell Bowling Club was formed in 1913 with a 3 rink green and 41 founding members, during the 1920’s an additional rink was built with plans put forward in 1945 to construct a seven rink green on a new site which was leased from the shire and was part of the recreation reserve. This is now the present site of the bowling club in Hazelwood Road, green was constructed and funded wholly by members; the green was officially opened on New Year’s Day 1949.
